How you will make a difference

Reporting to the Senior Communications Manager, you will engage with media and influencers to advance plant-based and cultivated meat across Europe, and coordinate GFI Europe’s media relations work across the continent.

As a member of our communications team, you will be responsible for driving a positive narrative for GFI Europe and sustainable proteins by:

• Developing and overseeing the delivery of international public relations campaigns for GFI Europe and the sustainable proteins sector across Europe.
• Commissioning, coordinating and overseeing the work of colleagues, agencies and freelancers to ensure they deliver high-quality work and secure positive media coverage in multiple European languages and countries.
• Developing key messages, press materials, and website and social media content in the languages you are able to work in.
• Building relationships with journalists and influencers across Europe in the fields of science, business, food, agriculture, and policy.
• Working and building relationships with key organisations and companies across Europe to secure positive media coverage and strengthen support for sustainable proteins.
• Understanding and following the European conversation around sustainable proteins to identify new opportunities to advance the sector and GFI Europe’s work.
• Supporting GFI Europe spokespeople to prepare for interviews and events.
• Acting as a spokesperson for GFI Europe in Italian when necessary.
• Contributing media content to GFI Europe’s digital channels, including social media, website and email newsletters.
• Monitoring, evaluating and optimising GFI Europe’s public relations work.
• Contributing to a forward plan of GFI Europe’s wider communications activities.
• (In future) Potentially line managing members of GFI Europe’s communications team.
• Performing other relevant duties as required.

Who we’re looking for

You must have:

• A passion for our philosophy and mission.

• Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including the ability to speak and write persuasively in Italian.
• A passion for, and demonstrated success with, proactive media outreach, including effectively developing and pitching stories and interacting with the media to secure positive coverage. You may have previously worked in PR, journalism or another relevant field.
• The ability to think strategically in terms of audience, channels and messaging.
• Good judgement and news sense: the ability to successfully spot opportunities and ‘hooks’ to secure coverage, and to get the substance, tone and nuance of our message right.
• Excellent people skills: the ability to influence, network, build alliances and work well in a team.
• A can-do approach: a self-starter with the drive and initiative to take responsibility for delivering impact.
• Comfort working remotely in a rapidly growing and evolving organisation: the ability to work well independently and under pressure, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
• Fluent English, both written and spoken.

It would be an advantage to be able to work in other European languages, but this is not a prerequisite, and we welcome applications from candidates without additional languages.

Benefits and the fine print

Terms of employment:Full-time (flexible hours), permanent. Requests for part-time hours (0.8 FTE or above) can be considered. Please state this in your application.

Location:Flexible – we will consider applicants from anywhere in Europe. This is a remote role, and you will be able to work from home, or anywhere you choose. We are happy to consider supporting costs for co-working to enable you to work from an office if you wish. The whole GFI Europe team aims to get together in person approximately twice per year for around 3-4 days at a time. Travel costs will be covered by GFI Europe within our travel policy.

Salary: The salary and benefits package for all of our roles are researched and benchmarked based on similar nonprofit roles in the country/location of hire. Due to capacity, we cannot complete that research for every European country in advance, but approximate indicative ranges (total annual amounts received in gross salary plus benefits including home-working allowance) are likely to be:

• €36,000 to €42,000 if based in Italy.
